What is an Optician?

An Optician is a licensed professional who is trained to interpret eyeglass or contact lenses prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists. The Optician is responsible for taking measurements of the patient’s eye and assisting them in the selection of frames and lenses based on their prescription, physical features, measurements and lifestyle.  The optician instructs the patient with eyeglasses and contact lenses care and use.  They will ensure the finished lenses are ground to federal and state safety standards and regulations.  Opticians make sure that the eyewear is properly fitted to the patient, ensuring the highest quality vision with the given prescription.
