Membership FAQ’s

Have questions about OAV membership? The FAQs below should answer most of them. If you have others, please do not hesitate to contact us by using the form to the left or email, oav@vaopticians.org.

Q: Does my membership belong to me, or the company I work for?

The Opticians Association of Virginia is an individual membership organization. Companies cannot join; only individual Opticians can become members.

Q: Does my membership stay with me if I switch companies?

Yes. Because membership is assigned to the individual, members keep their membership if they switch jobs.

Q: How much does membership cost?

When a member joins OAV, he or she joins both the State Association and the Opticians Association of America (OAA). The membership dues of $125 cover enrollment in both OAV and the OAA national organization.

For more information, visit our Membership Benefits page or Reasons to Join.

Q: How long does my membership last?

Membership is on a 12-month calendar year.  Your membership lasts 12 months, starting in from the day you join.

Q: What are the benefits of becoming a member?

The OAV community, our statewide programs, and our national resources provide professional engagement and enrichment for all levels of experience, from the newcomer to the seasoned optician.

For more information, visit our Membership Benefits page.

Q: Are there opportunities to network with other professionals?

Yes! Twice a year the OAV hosts two conferences: Spring and Fall.  From luncheon programs, continuing education, special workshops,  lectures and social events bring our members a mix of discussions and news of the latest optical trends. The best part is the opportunity to connect with other professionals who can share their perspectives on the same challenges and opportunities you are experiencing.

For more information, visit our conventions page.

Q: Will joining OAV provide opportunities for career development?
